islander727 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2017 Scheduled a vacation this week. Intended on chasing beach snook. I should have known better. If it's not red tide, it's wind. And it's been windy since April. That's tomorrow's forecast. Joy.
agn54 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2017 That's why I always carry a spinning rod or bait caster as well as the fly rod. I'd much rather toss a jig or plug in heavy wind than get frustrated with the long rod in the wind.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2017 Yep, I agree with agn. When I travel, it's with one fly rod and one spinning rod. I can go fishing, no matter the weather conditions or surrounding brush/environment. Wind and tight quarters both call for spinning gear.
islander727 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2017 I can fish the bay from the opposite shore and be alright (with a fly rod). Spinning rod isn't an option, because I don't have a reel! But it's that time of year when all I can think of is sight fishing those little buggers. Doesn't matter what you're throwing at the gulf in those winds, though (not my picture. Probably doesn't represent actual conditions.)
