Squamish in Spring

Recommended Posts

As the title suggests.

A friend of mine is heading to Vancouver in the Spring time (September).

I'd like to tie him a selection of flies that would be suited to this time of year...

I guess bull trout, cuthroat, sea runs etc and the odd salmon?

Can anyone point me in a direction that could help?

Fished the Squamish several times in spring for C&R steelhead, but never in our fall. Its about 45 minutes north of Vancouver. Used the guides at Whistler Fly Fishing and found them to be quite good. You could probably google their web site for more info.

I tied some soft hackles for a trout retreat swap similar to the ones you're collecting for. I tied it with pink silk body, silver wire butt and rib, bushy pink Ostrich herl collar, white hen hackle, pink thread and built up the head and UV'ed. Another guy on the board took the idea and tied some on bigger 6 and 4 hooks versus my 12's and said they quickly became a favorite for sea run cutties.
