  1. Philly thanks..I am definitely going to tie up spinners for next year...the fish were hitting them hard right at dark. I think I may have got lucky as well because there were a few other smaller mayflies hatching but not in the numbers the drakes were hatching and with the size of the bugs you could tell what they were hitting on. I have another picture of a drake that has almost a yellowish color to the body .it was definitely a fun experience and being new to the sport I had a tough time getting rising fish to hit my fly...I don't quite have the presentation down yet.
  2. With still being a newbie to fly fishing and tying and after hearing from others how tough the green drake hatch can be on the Penns Creek in PA, I decided I would try my luck anyway. The hatch was absolutely amazing and the action was unreal. Fish rising left and right and drakes so thick it looked like it was snowing. I did manage to land one nice brown and miss quite a few. After seeing the size of these bugs i decided to try to replicate one with the few materials I have, so here is my attempt at an extended body green drake. I won't get to fish it till next year since the hatch will be over before I can get to the creek again. The second photo is one of the large drakes I took while fishing.
  3. Thanks for the comments guys. utyer, thats the exact kind of feedback I am looking for, I will try to take these things into account with the next ones I tie.
  4. No I tied all the flies in the box except the top right row in the second fly box folder and the two bottom right rows in the second fly box folder. I wish I could tie that well, but I can't take credit for those 3 rows of flies, I bought them. The rest are tied by me though. Corey
  5. Really like the looks of this pattern. I am going to have to give it a try sometime. Thanks for posting, I really enjoy all your tying videos. I just started venturing into tying myself and they have been a big help.
  6. Looks like a great day of fishing. Those are some awesome looking fish.
  7. I have been doing a lot of reading on here, watching tons of fly tying videos and spending a lot of time attempting to tie some flies to fill my fly box for a few fall trips to the Penns Creek. Well I got my fly box pretty much filled up to capacity and have learned a lot of things as I have been trying to tie various patterns. Here are a few of my recent flies. The first is a parachute adams which I think has improved since my first ones but it still has plenty of room to improve. I have also been enjoying tying flashback pheasant tail nymphs and brassies in various colors. I did all the flies in the fly box except the top right row and the 2 bottom left rows on the second picture. Last photo is a picture of a fly I tied up in various colors for bass. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks Corey
  8. Thanks guys. SIlvercreek I agree the proportions on all my first flies seem to be off. The link FlyTire posted has some good info on dubbing fly bodies and I hope that it will help me progress forward with my proportions.
  9. Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments. I just got my tying stuff from my wife for my birthday this year so it has been only a month since I have been trying to tie these. My proportions are definitely off on that hare's ear and my parachute is also way too far back. I have found it very hard to finish off those parachute flies without getting the hackles wrapped up in my whip finish. Flytire, thanks for the links, bookmarked them and will be referencing them on my next ties. Also wanted to say thanks to everyone on here who is willing to help us newbies out. This site has a lot of great information all in one place. Corey
  10. I just recently started attempting to tie flies. I made several of each fly pictured here and the ones picture are what I would consider the best out of each group. Please critique and comment on things you see that need tweaking or are way off. I am used to working on my wood lathe making game calls so working with such a small sized object is proving to be a big challenge for me. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear Green Weenie Brassie Foam Beetle Pheasant Tail Nymph Parachute Adams Not sure what you would call these, I was just messing around with the few materials that I have Sorry for the photo quality, these small flies are hard to photograph Corey
  11. I have been lurking here for quite sometime now taking in all the awesome information everyone has been sharing and learning a lot from it. I figured it was about time to sign up and participate a bit in the fun. A little bit about me..I am from central Pennsylvania, love to fish and hunt, have a wonderful wife and daughter, I am a bridge designer by day and make my own duck calls, goose calls and trout inline spinners as a hobby. I enjoy making what I use for hunting and fishing and I am new to the fly fishing scene. Have been fly fishing for about a year now and recently been looking into starting to tie my own flies. There are not a lot of good trout streams around where I live, however I live about 30 minutes from the Penns Creek which has a very good population of brown trout, this is where I will be doing most of my fly fishing. I am looking forward to learning from this forum and starting to tie my own flies. Corey
