Made a few changes to Olympic Peninsula tyer Joe Sudman's sea-run cutt version of the Carey Special

My try at the original came out a bit static looking (could be a function of the crappy orange ostrich herl I have, or I just can't tie this fly properly).

hook - Dai Riki 899 #8

thread - MFC 6/0 fire orange

tail - golden pheasant tippet hot orange

rib - small wire gold

abdomen - peacock herl

thorax - pheasant aftershaft dyed hot orange (1Tbs Rit Sunshine Orange/1 cup water)

hackle - pheasant rump dyed hot orange

mash barb, start thread at 60% mark; tie in rib, wrap to bend

strip off some tippet fibers, measure (gap width); tie in/trim
