  1. I searched their entire site for links to MSDSs for the ingredients in their products. I use their Aquel and Fly Tying waxes all the time. I sent them an e-mail asking for MSDSs for those two products. I have a strong hunch that both of those contain oil distillates of some kind, similar to our contentious WD-40. IMO the reason they can blurt out they have "no" environmental impact is the QUANTITY generally used and introduced into the waterway is so tiny that it has basically no measurable effect. That does not mean it is harmless---- I'll post whatever reply I get from them. I am really interested in this as well. I could not find anything as far as a MSDS either. But I am ver curious. Thank you very much for calling them out as far as actual ingredient list. I just hope they do not reply to you with proprietary ingredients!!
  2. Oh, and for those of us that are worried about environmental impact or think that all fly fishing products are capable of environmental harm: loonoutdoors.com
  3. This is good info, thanks guys.
  4. Jimr1961, thanks for clearing that up. I feel like a doofus for not knowing that.
  5. That would be cool to watch. It finally stopped raining here so I will have plenty of sun to dry some flies in tomorrow!! Here's hoping I didn't blow $20 for a geewhiz type deal!!
  6. Flytire is spot on. I use a Nikon D7000 but that is because I do photography as a hobby/artist. You'd be surprised at what a P and S can do in the macro world. Some will do much better than any SLR can unless you own a macro capable lens (can get pricy, the cost of a great P and S) and a few good P and S cameras are water proof and great for stream side entomology pictures for future reference. Ultimately it boils down to cost and commitment. Have fun and food luck.
  7. @JS, my arguments were NOT pourly thought out. I am more than familiar with the "other" possibilities that man has made to polute the environment. You are not the only one who can grasp large amounts of information. As for arguing over the internet, if you see it as pointless (this is for everybody), that is your fault. I see it as a possibility to let someone know that a.) there are people who are unaware of another view point and b.) you have the power to help inform a person or people that you are willing to stand up for what you believe is right. If we were having this very discussion face to face (sort of like being at a fishing meeting) then you would consider it pertinent information. So why is this different? The very forum we all share and love is basically a meeting place. So, should we not share our view points if they differ from yours because we are on "the internet?" Or just read it and say nothing because it is pointless to argue?
  8. A very clean looking tie!! I like it. I am still trying to perfect wraps of hackle around a post. You are in another league entirely!!!
  9. I didn't know that Hans. That's a great idea!! I am going to have to remember that one!!
  10. Sure, roads, cars and rods all have a certain inevitable amount of petroleum compounds, but when you are at a mountain stream, following a dirt road to your favorite location, I highly doubt that there has been too many chemicals introduced to that stream (depending on prevailing winds that may or may not be picking up chemicals from cities hundreds of miles away and what side of a mountain range you are on) You do not throw paper on the ground in the forest just because it started as a tree, do you? I didn't think so. So, just because there are a couple "biodegradable" chemicals in WD40, does that mean that it's a good practice to spray it on everything that you that you fish with? Look, I have a fair amount of experience with pollution in the wild. I can sit here all day and type all sorts of proof or statements or ideas or what ever you want but in the end, it is not a good idea to put more undo strain on an environment than is necessary. I think we can all agree on that. Oh, and please, do not get me started on the amounts of influence people have on an otherwise pristine world. That should be another post entirely.
  11. Like I stated above. It is a pollutant. Nothing more. Sure, you may catch that extra fish, but your "great idea" is killing more than just a few fish. That entire micro eco system that the WD40 is introduced to is now in jeopardy of being killed off. So, please, do some research (thank you switch10 and Stippled Popper) before you go basing your information on local folk lore.
  12. Bravo! Bravo!! Too funny!!
  13. Man, I thought I was doing good to be able to name three or four species of butterflies and a few other insects as well as a couple dozen snakes and wild animals. After reading JSzymczyk's dissertation, I am pretty sure I am at a preschool level and am basically calling everything a bug. My head hurts now and all I wanted was a nice picture of a sulfur (somethingius buggius).
  14. I just use my dogs fur. He leaves plenty for me. He is a Blue Heeler and there for has an awesome bluefish tint to his grayish colored fur. But I have found that once you have the fur, I just kinda "mash" it together and use that blob and spin it onto the thread with a lot of finger pressure.
