  1. Thanks for all the advice. I can tell this is going to be fun and can't wait to learn more flies and actually fish them.
  2. I would be happy to find seminars and people to teach me around here. We just don't have a fly shop. We do have a local fly tiers club, but it is made up of retirees and they meet every Thursday at 9 AM, at which time, I work. So sadly, I am on my own other than this website and youtube.
  3. The site rotated the picture when I uploaded it.
  4. Everything that I have seen, read, and watched, has said to keep the "dull" side of the hackle facing you when tying and towards the eye when you palmer it. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but it always seems to twist on me.
  5. Thanks for the advice. I figured I was finishing a bit late because the eye was always covered.
  6. When I uploaded the photos, they automatically rotated to that. No matter what I do, the site rotates them.
  7. Well I have tied my first flies. I only tied Griffiths Gnats and I uploaded them. Tell me what you think. Here is the first one. And here is the last one I finished. Still need some practice
  8. I am looking at dubbing types and I am seeing a ton of different types. Do they really make a difference, and if it does, is one better than the other.
  9. I will be tying mostly bass and trout flies. As for patterns, it will be just the most basic for trout and bass. I live next to a great smallmouth river in the Ozarks and a ton of small lakes.
  10. Thank you. I got the tools for Christmas and I am ready to get started. This place looks like it will be a massive source of knowledge.
  11. Other than Bass Pro or Cabelas, what other online stores would you guys recommend for buying materials. I just started and the local Cabelas here doesn't have squat, and we don't have any fly shops.
