  1. I prefer a round or oval type of wire-tinsel for ribbing. It seems you are using a flat type, which I use for tinsel bodies or flash back. Also when using wire-tinsel I often start with wrapping a tiny "tag" at the butt end of the body, then rib the body. I rib the body the using the opposite turn direction as for the body material. This will strengthen the body. I also try to rib with less distance closer to the butt, then widening the rib turns closer to the abdomen. Mikechells tip about hiding the start of the rib is also a good choice. Cheers, Ulf
  2. We have some regional patterns here in Sweden which are "must-have" for me, but like to recommend some universal flies/types (for inland trout, streams and still water): Parachute Adams, original colour. Klinkhamer, colours tan, brown, yellow, olive. Elk hair caddis: natural and bleached, and maybe Europea-12 and Goddard Sedge, A nice generic winged mayfly pattern, tan, yellow, brown, grey A generic midge pattern. Hares ear, natural, olive Hares ear with gold head, also see the "flash-back" variant. Pheasant Tail Caddis larvae and nymph Cased caddis Emergers and flymf patterns mosquito larvae/nymph Wolly Worm; brown, black, olive, maybe an orange/hot variant for early season. Muddler Minnow Zonker: natural, olive, white Beetles: Black, brown, olive Wasp Daddy Long Leg Cheers, Ulf
  3. Thanks, @Piker20: No - I do not fish at the coast. I've tried once or twice, but the sea is to vast.... I find it difficult to read the water Distance is at least 100-150 km. So locally I fish P&T, we have a small water in our club. There are nice streams some distance from here as well, river Emån's tributaries for instance. Grayling in lake Vättern seems to recover, I have seen some success reported, and I have this on my to-do list to try. Vättern is rather close.
  4. Hi, I've registered a while ago, but forgot about it. So now I pick up the membership again. I'm eager to get inspiration from you, and perhaps share some of my insignificant skills in return... Anyway,,, My name is Ulf Bremin, have been flyfishing many years and enjoyed tying flies for trout and grayling almost since I started flyfishing some 20 years ago... This was in fact my second "career" as a flyfisher, I did my first cast as a teenager, but quit fishing for a while. The thing that triggered me to start again was the aha-moment when I first tried a modern carbon fibre rod. Lots of fun. Previously I had fished with mediocre glass and split cane rods. I live in southern part of Sweden, in Linköping town, which is the 5:th largest in my country. I am member of the local flyfishing club here. I like fishing in Norway and in Sweden, enjoying very much our yearly "week 32" trip with 5 of my fishing buddies. Three of us have been to New Zealand twice for trout fishing. I tie most of my flies, but my eyes are not that young anymore, it is becoming a challenge nowadays tying flies smaller than 16/18. Cheers, Ulf
