For my flies that are 22 and smaller, I use a razor blade.

Just the other day I caught a 22" Brown on a size 22 fly. I would say that 90% of my nymphs and dry flies are on size 16 - 22. I couldn't agree more that small flies = big fish. remember those fish get big by not falling for our larger imitations. Check the bugs on the river and compare sizes. For instance, the BWO nymphs in my favorite stream are about the size of a 26 hook. So even when I tie them on a 22, I'm at a disadvantage. Also, once in a while I'll use my "stomach sucker" (I call it) to check what is in the trouts stomach. Most of the time they feed on insects that are so small that they just can't be tied. My advice is...give it a try. You may surprise yourself.

I tied a half dozen of these and hit the river yesterday with them in the box. I addded a bit of CDC in the winging and used crystal flash under clear olive larvae lace. the crystal flash under the lace, simulates the little air bubbles emergers carry with them to the surface. Of the 4 browns I landed, 2 were on this pattern. It's now a proven fly for me. Thanks for sharing.

My first flies were Hares Ear Nymphs and similar. Now I tie everything I can...including my rods.

We have strong caddis hatches in my area so I find the stimulators in a size 14 or 16, but I'd never hit the river during Caddis time without size 20-22 elk hair caddis flies in my box. 80% of my fishing is with nymphs and emergers but nothing is more exciting as an evening of rising trout.

It is some sort of parachute / extended body fly.... Can't really tell as we have no size reference. What size hook is it on...if it's a size 12 or larger, I'd say its a damsel or dragonfly imitation (dry), if it's 14 or smaller it's just an extended body dry fly like a mayfly or similar...really hard to tell with this photo...try to get a size reference adn it might help out a bit. Nice looking fly though...

They're small but I got a 21 inch Brown the other morning using those...tiny BWO are great in early and late season....hope they work for you.

Please don't go more than 36...I was on the fence about 24...what other sites are you posted on????
