Can anyone identify this fly??

Recommended Posts

Hello, can anyone help in identifying this fly? And/or the materials used to make its body? Also the thorax shell. I have tried grey ostrich, but the fibers seem to be too long.

Can’t seem to find any information on it when searching.

Thanks in advance!

Looks pretty generic, and probably pretty productive by the looks of it.

Sharper focus would help a lot. The details are all fuzzy. The body is is definitely dubbed, but it isn't clear if there a rib (probably). The tail is hackle fibers, and it has a light colored wing case, probably out of thin skin, or some similar synthetic.

A bead head gold ribbed hare's ear would come close, just change the tail and the wing case.

what website did you find this fly? maybe info is there?

can you post a focused photo?

just a guess

tail: coq de leon or other barred hackle feather fibers

body: black spikey dubbing

wing case: nymph skin or thin razor foam

thorax: same as the body

these look similar. just substitute the tail material and use black thread

My guess is a Feather Duster variation. If the Ostrich is too long try wrapping Marabou.
