Splitsville Muddler Spruce Moth SBS

These bugs are pretty much anywhere there are spruce trees in the parts of Montana I've been fishing lately, and the fish are interested. Size varied between #10-12 but the bigger fly was easier to see and floated better; your choice.

Playing around with the "tungsten" setting on the camera so everything has a bit of a bluish cast to it; don't think I'll do it again.

 

hook Dai Riki 320 #10

thread - UTC 140 tan

abdomen - dubbing light tan

loop - UTC 140 tan

hackle - grizzly (undersize by 1)

wing/head - deer hair bleached

 

 

Mash barb, start thread, tie in loop at 2/3 mark (facing forward over eye) and wrap to bend

Tie in hackle, hook loop onto gallows

Add a bit more dubbing up front

Wrap hackle up (thorax width - distance to eye) and back down; tie off at base of loop/trim
