Go to Dollar Tree and look for toys like these ...

The toys look different, but the material is the same on most of them.

 

Wow, I never thought it was that, thanks Mike!  I had assumed it was some sort of mcfly foam that was rigid

Just for future reference ... I am a Dollar Tree fan.  And Michael's ... and Jo-Ann's ... and Hobby Lobby.

 

There ARE materials that are best from a fly tying shop ... and there are those materials that can be had from discount places, if you can adapt it for your flies.

I did hit Michaels already and got peacock herls and pheasant feathers .... never thought to try the Dollar Store, there is one 2 blocks from my work

Just an FYI ... At CVS, they have the toys with very small nubs.  For guys who want to tie small Squirmie Worms and similar flies using that material ... now's your chance to buy some.
