  1. Yes, and it's a very popular product. I use it all the time however I'm not sure about any health issues that the product may cause.
  2. I live in Canada and I have looked all over North America for my favorite hooks for Yorkshire Spiders. I tie a lot of them and I want them to hang in the film or just under the film. The absolutely very best hook that you can get in my opinion for these flies are made by a company called Scorpion the hook is 31550 All Purpose Medium Size 8 – 16. They are Sproat however, down eye, standard wire. You have to get them from the UK though (sorry) I have a supplier in Aberdeen Scotland who has these hooks and a whole lot more. http://www.flymakers.freeserve.co.uk/index-2.html
  3. I own an Orvis Master Set supplemented by many other tools. I find the Master Set to be of excellent quality except for the Ceramic Bobbin Holder that comes with the kit. This bobbin has a red ceramic point with a narower channel than the other Orvis Super Smooths. I have had this bobbin replaced by the Orvis Dealer twice as both times it broke the ceramic part in half as soon as I inserted the Bobbin Threader that comes with the set. All of the other Orvis Bobbins that I bought such as the Magnum and the Curved don't have any problems. As for the other tools in the set, perfect.....
  4. Good luck to your son and God Bless all who serve. I spent a considerable amount of my life serving in the Royal Navy. I hope he enjoys it as much as I did.
  5. QUOTE (SmallieHunter @ Oct 25 2004, 10:32 AM) Yea you can't go wrong with Hubbard's method Yes, Hubbard's method looks very interesting indeed, I'll have to try that. I can recommend Jims method for the birds. I have a couple of his skins and they are great.
  6. QUOTE (steelheadohio @ Oct 23 2004, 09:20 PM) hey where is that Grand River you were talking about that you hooked that nice brown? (what state) It's in Ontario Canada!! Nice tie Streamside. I'd never be able to tie one that small in a month of Sunday's. I don't know if you were on the Hipwader site way back when it started by I had actually caught Troutzilla (And coined the name) and I had the pic posted on the site for a couple of months. I sold that pic to a marketing company in the mid west for a fine fee.
  7. Lots of stuff on the Web. Here is a couple. I think I'd rather buy them than tan them myself. http://members.aol.com/Ambrejem/Tanning.html http://www.cahe.nmsu.edu/pubs/_l/l-103.html
  8. Here is a link that may help you with the birds. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/a...c/skinning.html

    Hackle Guard

Cut the tip off the little finger of your wife's rubber kitchen glove, the tip should look like a little rubber cup. Make a small hole in the center and push it over your bobbin tube. Leave it on the bobbin all the time and when you want to hold some hackle back out of the way slide the guard off the bobbin and along the thread over the hook eye and invert the guard. When your done slide the guard back on to the bobbin and continue. The guard will always stay immobile on the bobbin tube when your not using it.
  10. Super stuff Cornmuse, I learn everyday thnks to these contributions.

    Hmmmm

Here is another weird one that was on ebay some time ago. I like your one better as it seems to have a spare midge jaw lol
  12. QUOTE (mozes @ Sep 25 2004, 06:38 AM) You can use old audio tapes. There is enough material for MANY flies on one tape. Now that's pretty inovative! Good one.

    Bahamas

Size 4 flys. Crazy Charlie, Gold Shrimp, Fur Shrimp. They love the shrimp patterns. I fish Grand Bahama Island just along the beach from a town called West End. I always wade the flats. I usually have a guide but you could find some good flats on your own. I Stay at the Old Bahama Bay Inn and they take care of everything for me. Good luck.

I use a MacKenzie and of course I think its the best. (No longer make them) HMH Standard Pro would be my next choice. 3M Sold MacKenzie to HMH I believe.
