McFlyLures 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2018 I use this bunny leech the most for nymphing. I know it sounds weird, but this streamer works great for an attractor. I will drop a small midge behind this, and fish it under an indicator or even "euro nymph" it. Also, it is a great streamer for fishing with light rigs. This is easily casted with a 4wt, so it is great for small fish and small streams. Having no hide, makes this fly super light and easy to cast. I always keep some of these in the box with me no matter what river I fish. It has great movement with the bunny hair, and its a great attractor. Rabbit fur has many colors and is widely available at many fly shops, and its rather inexpensive compared to other natural materials. So this fly is a great fly for budge as well. Here is a list of materials I used on this fly. Hook: Umpqua U301 in size 10 Thread: UTC Ultra Thread 70 in Red Fur: Magnum Rabbit Zonker in natural color Head Cement: Solarez Bone Dry
Dave G. 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2018 Yours looks a bit nicer than my version I've been tying for 20 years, I think I will switch mine up to your way. Those streamers in small sizes are good in some Maine rivers where young salmon hold, fwiw ( I know you are not in Maine and may never be in Maine ). No Im not there, and likely will not ever get the chance to fish there. Work and life keeps me from my dream of traveling around and fishing every state. Lol. Thanks man, I appreciate it! So what is different? How is mine different?

What I do, and I tie these size 8 and 10 fwiw, is cut my rabbit strip skin down narrow and spiral it up the hook shank, making sure to stroke the fibers rearward. It comes out looking very similar either way. But I like your idea of getting the skin off there all together, one less thing to soak up water.

I can cast these with my 3wt 10 just fine. But no way I could if it had the skin on to soak up the water. Thanks man, let me know how it works for you.
