trimming deer hair flies

Ok, I'm slacking a little today, so this will be a short one....

When triming hair flies such as Dahlberg's or Campbell Divers, it is all too easy to accidently trim of tailing or hacle material. Here's a neat little trick to prevent stubbing your fly.....after tying in the hackles and tailing materials, and before you begin to spin the body, take a peice of lead wrap and loosely tie down the tail. This will push the tail down and out of the way when you begin timming and will prevent a loss if you slip or just get a little carried away. After trimming, simply unwind the lead, and you still have a perfect tail.
