Vladan's Ephemera Emerger SBS

An interesting Serbian sparkle dun emerger variation. First shot, working the bugs out; possibilities here.

 

 

hook Dai Riki 300 #10

thread - MFC 8/0 sand

rib - small wire gold

shuck/abdomen - ostrich herl tan

tail/shellback - wood duck flank

thorax - dubbing march brown

wing - deer hair

 

Mash barb, start thread at 3/4 mark

Clean, stack, measure (shank length) a clump of deer hair; tie in, holding deer hair in pinch, take a few tight turns to lock butts down, trim

Tie in rib, wrap to bend

Measure (gap width past bend) some ostrich fibers; tie in

Wrap ostrich to wing butts; tie off/trim

Measure (2x shuck length) some wood duck flank fibers; tie in at base of wing

Rib abdomen, helicopter end, cover with thread, trim wood duck butts, thin out tail

Not a huge fan of sparkle duns, mainly because I don't like tying them; Spunduns are easier and provide a bit more positive buoyancy.

 

 

hook Dai Riki 300 #10

thread - UTC 140 tan

rib - small wire gold

shuck/abdomen - ostrich herl dun

tail/shellback - bronze mallard

thorax - deer hair butts

wing - deer hair

Haven't seen a spundun... Do you just spin it to length all around the hook and then trim butts all around and trim tips off only the bottom half? And do you use spinning hair or still use the softer, short tipped stuff? Thanks for posting

Heres a Spundun SBS that will show the tying sequence; hope it helps.
