  1. I'm thinking real hard about using coq de leon feathers for tailing on my drys, only which do i buy?? i see there are hen saddles, rooster saddles, hen necks and rooster necks.
  2. on size 20 and smaller i use straight eye hooks, just doesn't seem to close the hook gap as much as down eye. I think A.K. Best got me on to that
  3. Welcome aboard Stik, you'll get all the help you need( and don't need) in here. lol Great bunch of guys. just hope your not too butt ugly and scare all the fish here in Iowa!!!!! LOL :hyst: your buddie bubba
  4. My emergers are basicly a fly with it's butt and trailing shuck in the water and the wing out of the water, I use snowshoe rabbit foot hair as a wingcase and wing on my small emergers, works great. good luck.
  5. One thing that really helped me was, apply a little dubbing wax to your thumb and forfinger instead of the thread. It really helps get a good grip on the dubbing as I spin it on the thread.
  6. Thanks for the kind words Jordon. Glad to hear your b-i-l is safe and back home!!!!!!!
  7. Has anyone recieved their autographed diplomas yet???? I have heard nothing.
  8. I've used a Crown vise for 10 years, handles ANY hook I put in it. It's a Regal knock off. You can get them at any Sportsmans Warehouse for under $50.00
  9. Keep us updated with the fishin down south. Don't be afraid to pack some dry ice and fresh redfish and send it back to Iowa!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, you might find some GIANT bluegills in Georgia!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So pack a side arm to shoot em if need be. LOL
  10. Dustin, It was great to meet you and fish with you. Good luck in your new job. Get used to grits!!!!!!! Hope all the mud came off the jeep. LOL Tim
  11. I use dubbing wax, but after watching AK Bests videos, I use it the way he does. He puts the wax in a small container on his bench, then just puts a bit on his index finger and thumb. I tried it, and what a difference. Much easier to put dubbing on that way than trying to wax up the thread. And use small amounts of dubbing at a time. Tim
  12. Philip, Welcome aboard, When i first started tying 20 years ago, there wasn't a whole lot. I was just starting to find the internet. My dad saw something in me in 1965 and bought me a flyrod and reel, and left me on my own. He died too young, before internet. but it stayed with me. I read and bought and learned on my own. Your in a time when things are at your fingertips!!!! I'm still learning, but most of all having fun, ( at 54 ). This is one of the best sites I've ever been associated with. People will help with anything you can come up with. So don't be shy, just ask, be willing to take some ( critisizum ?? ) , tell some to take a hike. and remember, some of the fish catchingist flies have been chewed to bits bit fish, so no fly is worthless, no matter what you may think. In some way we're all beginners and experts. and if your ever in central Iowa, i'll be glad to show you how things are done the right way and the wrong way!!!!! LOL. Tim Stuart, Iowa
