  2. Hello all, I have been battling with my dry flies for awhile now. I have noticed that some no matter what I do ride incorrectly. I have recently been dropping flies in a glad bowl of water upon completion with varying results. It seems my catskill, EHC, Humpy, and even sometimes emerger and parachute flies sit awkwardly. Sometimes cocked to one side sometimes the tail sinks and the fly rides vertical. I have decided to suspend my dry fly tying until I can cure this issue. Since I have a lot of time on my hands today I believe I will add pictures of the fly completed fresh off the vice and then a picture of the fly upon dropping it in water. I am dropping the fly from about 3-4" to the bowl.
  3. Thanks for the advice. I am thinking that it very well be from twisting tippet. Its very frustrating to be so satisfied with the way a fly looks only to see it drift awkwardly down the stream.
  4. Ok so I've been tying for almost two years. In the beginning it was strictly nymphs/streamers. Now I've moved on to dries. It seems that my elk/deer hair winged flies and my parachute patterns will not ride correctly in the drift. Looking at my flies compared to purchased ones there seems to be no difference. However, while fishing i've noticed that both my flies and "sometimes" purchased flies will float on their sides. Is there a flaw in the tying of these flies and is there a quick fix, or is there no problem with the flies perhaps another remedy? I will try to post some picks of dries that I have tied to give you all a better look. Thanks in Advance!!
  5. Buy Brassie or Medium, The majority of my purchases have been in size brassie. I feel its best especially if you're going to do more than one color on your copper johns like gold and red for example.
  6. Again, I much appreciatethe advise. I am going to give start the hackle earlier. Thats a great idea!
  7. Are you saying I should go back further with the palmer hackle? Also on the back two flies I used 2 elk hair strands dyed black. Is moose thinner than that or were you specifically referrig to the first LBS with the goose biot tails? Thank you for your comments
  8. I have a dry box, nymph box, streamer box and an junkfly box. All are arranged in a disorganized fashion. I have a swing leaf box for my dries with slit foam but have noticed that the hackle get mangled from not having enough room. Is it better to use compartment boxes for dries?
  9. I thought I'd give them a shot and just sort of threw the fly together from some different recipes I've seen. Please make any suggestions to help improve the flies. Thank you
  10. Awesome Fly Shop you got going on there!
