In this video I am gladly presenting one of my all-time favourite dry flies - the Griffith´s Gnat (original pattern by George Griffith). This pattern has on numerous occasions proven its efficiency when struggling with fastidious trout, grayling and char, as it mainly imitates midges in various stages as well as tiny mayflies. This suggestive pattern has come to become an important part of what I bring to the waters, and when tied like in the video it is a properly sturdy fly. I would not dream of going out fishing without them. The technique of creating the fly by twisting the materials all together was shown to me by my good friend Thomas Züllich - a fly fisher and tier who appreciates simplicity and durability. I owe a lot to him as he has been a good friend and a constant source of inspiration. Tie in sizes between #14 and #24 to match the hatch. A bigger fly will appear as a clump of midges while smaller ones will appear as single insects.
