pacres 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 Leech patterns work very well for waleye. Catatonic leech to be specific. in dark water, chartreuse patterns work well.
rougetrout 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 Almost all leech patterns work well. I have good luck with egg sucking leeches and wooly buggers tied fairly large. Also check out the species index link on the top of the home page to look at walleye patterns that editors have selected.
davidmac 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 Im told they are hitting on white grubs right now. Or white Mr Twisters.
davidmac 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 I was thinking of a large stone fly nympf with a leech or minnow tailer. so it looks like dinner and desert.
Dble Haul 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 Clouser minnows are also effective, even in shallow water. This topic makes me wish that there was decent flyfishing waters for walleye around here.
davidmac 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 thanks all ,I will let you know how I made out.Hopefully typing with greasey fish fry fingers.
Guest Report post Posted June 13, 2005 If the water you are fishing has a hexgenia limbata mayfly hatch, fish it night with a large hex imitation. Walleye feed heavily upon them when they occur. Mark Delaney
WindKnotFlies 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2005 The pattern I use is tied on a size 8 hook with bead chain eyes (tied on top of the hook) black chenille, black hackle, and black hackle feathers for a tail. The wallies up here eat um up and they are easy to tie.
