  1. Everyone with a YouTube channel is an expert tier and can show you the best way to tie a fly.
  2. I wear prescription lenses all the time. I got the progressives a couple of years ago and told the doc I was a fly tyer, and asked if I could get the bottom of the progressives beefed up a bit. He was glad to accommodate me. Personal opinion, Lighting is more important than magnification. If you have trouble seeing the flies, go see an optometrist and get your eyes checked. Chances are, you are having trouble seeing other things, too. I tried the big magnifier on the lamp thing, and had trouble getting everything lined up so both eyes were focusing thru the glass, and still be close enough to see and tie at the same time. Kirk B.
  3. LOL Flytire. I could quit buying materials right now, only replacing hooks and thread, and not run out of flies to tie in my lifetime. For Heaven's sake, PLEASE don't tell my wife! I just like having ...No, *collecting*... materials almost as much as I like fishing and tying. Kirk B.
  4. I've moved stuff around on the tabletop a few times, but never totally rearranged my setup except when I bought my tying table. Kirk B.
  5. Yeah, I have 3 bags of Easter basket grass, in green, pink and yellow. 2 of them have never been opened. Same thing with Christmas tree Icicles, or silver tinsel. Kinda goes back to that whole "saving money tying my own flies" thing, lol. These packages look a little smaller. I may have to add to the backlog. I do use opal tinsel a fair bit. Kirk B.
  6. For a minute, I thought maybe you weren't fishing on earth! Weird looking thing. Kirk B.
  7. Pure Luck, lol. I gave it a couple of tries. A larger diameter hook shank helps. I had a lot more difficult time getting the legs the way I wanted them on a dry hook than on a 3906B for wets. They still came out splayed, I just couldn't in anything that looked like the same plane. The worst part is, now I'll be looking at my simple little foam spiders differently, lol. Kirk B.
  8. Yeah, Some are higher than others. The only thing that might be different is tying both sets for one side in at the same time. The foam body also helps control how they splay. The piece that has a narrower set is set higher, and is pinched a little bit by the foam. Just for shots and giggles, I'm gonna tie another one and see if it works every time, lol. Kirk B.
  9. Just for curiosity, do you have to pay a green's fee to fish? And should I wear a football helmet and pads? Kirk B.

Damn, Mike! Are we brothers? LOL We got lucky this year. It was raining like a cow pissin' on a flat rock. Kirk B.
  11. Too hard to cut the trough to cast in. I'm with Mike. Too many people, and too damned cold. There is a reason I still live down here in the Piney woods. That fluffy white stuff and hard water are very rare. If it starts becoming commonplace, I'm headed South. (OK, Southwest) Kirk B.
  12. Tastes like chicken! Just kidding. I'm sorry. I had to. Kirk B.
  13. Twice in less than 2 weeks. We are in SE Texas with the Neches, Angelina and Sabine Rivers close by. Good news is, the reservoirs are getting some much needed water. We got 13" in 10 Days. My back yard was higher than I have ever seen it in my 12 years there. A friend of mine got 2 feet in the house she bought a month ago. That hurts. She lives right on a bayou, though. Kirk B.
  14. They are re-introducing brown bears into the Big Thicket National wildlife area. Honestly, I have no idea why. As far as I can tell, the habitat has adapted to them not being there, and it's bordered by populated areas. It sounds like TPWD is just asking for trouble. To my decidedly uneducated opinion, it sounds like humans meddling, again. Kirk B.
  15. Sorry, Mike. I don't know any of the waters around Houston. My weekends this month are not my own. (Thanks Honey.) Good luck with this crazy weather. Kirk B.
