Not one I'll be tying with regularity; foam is so much easier, and more durable. Did not know Ron O'Neal was a fly fisherman; don't ask no questions why.

wrap hackles (tried wrapping one at a time - not recommended; also, you want to use hackle with the thinnest stems you can find) up (thorax width) and back down; tie off/trim tips (I should have dubbed the thorax before the hackle; it would have been much easier)

Nicely done.

If you are worried about the detached deer hair body, it is a lot easier to tie them on a needle and slide them off. You can tie a whole bunch that way, in no time. For strength coat them in one of the liquid skin products that you get for small cuts. Makes them much stronger.

Here we use a lot of deer hair detached body flies for dapping. We have tried foam and chenille as alternatives. They don't work half as well as the deer hair ones.

Cheers,

C.

Tied this one to scratch an itch, but for fishing, I'll stick to the mono-core Carnage style. No need to transfer from a needle and the foam holds up a long time, much more durable than deer hair; fish don't care, either.

Regards,

Scott
