Black Bear Red Butt SBS

Recommended Posts

i thought i'd try doing a step by step

NOTE: this is how i tied this fly. how YOU tie it is completely up to YOU

Black Bear Red Butt

Hook: Salmon type

Thread: Black

Tip: Silver oval tinsel

Tag: Red floss/uni-stretch/yarn etc

Tail: Black hackle fibers

Ribbing: Silver oval tinsel

Body: Black floss/uni-stretch/yarn etc

Throat: Black hackle fibers

Wing: Black bear or squirrel

tie in silver oval tinsel behind the return point of the hook eye and wrap the tinsel back to the bend of the hook to about the barb

wrap the tinsel in touching turns to create the "tip". about 4-6 wraps are enough

tie in the material for the "tag"

wrap the tag material to end just above the hook point.

tie in the black hackle fiber tail and wrap the thread toward the eye to cover all of the material butts

tie in another length of tinsel and black body material to be wrapped forward as the body and ribbing

after wrapping the body and ribbing, tie in black hackle fibers for the throat

tie in the wing material, wrap a nice looking head and your done

i have seen this fly with and without the tail on numerous websites. that option is up to you
