  1. welcome. You'll find great patterns, tying tips, and some pretty darn good stories here.
  2. All great tips. Just got a MP Magic Tool (about $30), and the MP dubbing tool. Am deeeeelighted with both. The Magic Tool makes it easy to combine different dubbing colors and materials, and the dubbing tool is a very clever item. There is also a Magnum Magic Tool for larger flies (same price, about $30) Take care guys
  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and congratulations
  4. I've also seen the pattern without the herl, just red floss and black palmered hackle, sizes down to 18. Supposed to be a pretty good Brookie pattern.
  5. If you have trouble with the hackle on your parachute patterns slipping off the post after a few fish, try this. After finishing the fly, use a disposable insulin syringe to inject head cement into the bottom of the post where the hackle is wound. Inject it straight down from the top of the post, being careful not to inject too much, you don’t want to soak the dubbing around the post. I find I can get several flies from one syringe before it gunks up too much. I am diabetic, so instead of tossing the syringe after I use it, it goes to the tying bench. If you know someone who is diabetic, annoy them until they start giving you used syringes for your cause. Most diabetics use a syringe once or twice a day, so it doesn't take long to build up a supply of used ones. Around here, you can’t get them without a prescription, and they cost big bucks anyway. They come in different needle sizes, any size will work fine. BE CAREFUL! Those small needles are SHARP !! Put the needle cap back on each time you use it. I keep an empty pop can on the bench to toss the syringes in when they are done for.
  6. Hi guys, Been hanging around watching for a few weeks now, and am having a blast. I'm in NW Ohio (toledo) but originally from mid state MIchigan. Been tying on and off for several years, but just got serious about 3 yrs ago. LOVE to annoy Brookies in N Mich when I can get up there. Strictly small streams in the state forests. Being in OH, I get more opportunites to chase smallies and panfish. Really enjoy looking at the postings, and have picked up a great amount of tying tips. Great site!
