Biots

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I figured I start tying with biots but there are so many different colors, what are the most common colors do you use ? the only two I can think of is brown for tail and white for wings on the Prince Nymph.

I didn't have any black goose biots in my stash, so when I saw a package of black goose biots in the local fly shop, I had to biot. I use the black biots for the wings of the Batman nymph.

Try Hart's Dark Lord, a prince nymph variant with amber and brown biots...

Also try them in pmd and bwo colors for biot bodies on those types of dries.

Also a red biot for red midge bodies

I've used all these with decent success on mountain stream and spring creek waters.

I use tan, brown, dun, olive, and PMD yellow. I use them pretty much only for bodies on dries and nymphs.

For nymph tails, Prince wings etc., I use goose biots in brown, black and white. For segmented bodies, I use turkey biots to match the hatch.
