Folks I would love to read the mag ( sounds like it is a good one) however due to it being supplied in a windows only format I think I will avoid it. Not only does this make it bloody hard to read (unless you line Bill Gates' pockets) but it bloats the file size considerably making life hard for readers who have dialup. As a software developer (and a non windows user) it really gets up my nose that publications like this in a nicely platform independant format (like pdf) are bound to a platform specific reader (like acrosplat). let me know when it is supplied in a format that everyone can read and I might have a look Otherwise, close but not close enough. haven't been scaed off trev. still moochin around checking things out. I agree that most of the books that I have seen (event he good ole water bug book) are fairly sketchy about details. I have found a guy at the local Uni who has done significant research into aussie mayflies. I am going to get hold of some of his publications and see what theya re like. Cheers Blake

Tightlines apparently we have them over here too (local name for them is "water slaters") though I am yet to see them in any of the streams that I frequent. pakito: I didnt tie it unfortunately. I wish I had the skills to be able to do it.

recently picked up a nice fresh bunny. we turned it into an educational thing and the kids got to learn "how a bunny works" gary I just tacked it out on a flat board to make the scraping easy and then scrape the fatty layer off. Cover with a generous layer of salt, leave a day, give the hide another clean up and salt again to be sure. be careful when putting road kill in with your other capes. I seal them in a press seal plastic bag with something to kill bugs (not napthalene cause it steeeenks). dont want the genetics to get eaten. Cheers Blake

I have used google images, however the prob is that I dont know the names (latin or otherwise) of the bugs I'm seeing. I probably should have said that in the first post (kossie dun is just 1 name that I know) I'd kinda like to search for "mayfly with brown body with cream ventral side and heavy black patterns on the wing" but unfortunately google doesn't like this. Would work better if i could flick through a gallery and pick it out of of the lineup. goulburn valley site is great for most stuff but unfortunately the entomology section is incomplete. thanks Blake

a little trivia for you all too. In this part of the world Dragonfly nymphs (in general) are known as "mudeyes", just in case you come across the term and were wondering what the hell it meant. I recall taxon being confused at the term on another site. Cheers Blake
