mikemac1, I had a hard time figuring out why your fly looked so different from the one a very good fly tyer had done in a different swap. Had to do a little checking and the fly that was done in the other swap by flytier was the Big Hole Demon. Norm's patterns are right on so why were your flies so good looking but so different? Guess there's different "demons" out there for us to tie to the vise.

Um ... those aren't like any "Woolly Bugger" I've seen before?

My thoughts Mike. Strange buggers but no one ties better on this board than Norm so I'll fish them for sure. Here's what I tied to help stand out if water is a little dingy.

Easy, the Big Hole Demon was popularized by Dan Bailey in the 1960s. Its two key characteristics are the badger hackle and tinsel body. It was spawned from the need for a flashy fly in the perpetually tea colored waters of the Big Hole Rver. A trip to Australia in 2017 introduced me to the Shrek, a Mylar bodied woolly bugger. (https://www.jsflyfis...ing-down-under/). I combined the two patterns into Firehole Demon because I fish both the Firehole and Big Hole many times each year. This fly excels in tea colored waters. Theres more detail in the link in my original post.

Dang, Snooze you loose.  I have half the flies tied ("Purple Rain" prince nymphs) and thought I would check in and see how the swap was filling up today. I thought I had posted an "I'm in" about third in but looks like I mustn't have hit the send.  Next time fishingbobnelson.
