  1. Well I do alot of small scale model work as one of my many hobbies so it wouldnt be the dexterity that I see as a problem. The problem is geting used to using 2 hairs instead of 200 HaHa, and since I'm relatively new to tying flies makes the idea of tying things I can barely do on a 16 on a 24 or smaller somewhat daunting, though I suppose that once I become more comfortable with it I could do it, though I don't know where I would get the hooks as I have never seen any smaller then 24 at the places I get my hooks. I sent a PM but I'm not sure if it worked as it seemes to not be in my sentbox, let me know if it didn't get through.
  2. 32s????? Wow I can't imagin tying anything that small, the smallest I have done is a 16, I don't think I could handle a 24 let alone 32 haha, props to anyone that can tie with a hook that small.
  3. Seems like I have a few things to try out then, and don't worry I don't hold it against you for speaking of non-fly equiptment haha as every one knows they have their place. Thanks!
  4. Right after the ice melts would make sence for the shallower/slightly warmer water... and sadly no there is no flyshop here but I plan on joining the local fly fishing club to see if I can meet some people that could take me.
  5. Yes I'm in ontario (kingston) but there are none within an hour of my place (dont have my drivers licence so it has to be in biking range). But if you guys know any in or very close to kingston that would be awesome lol. There are plenty of lake trout to be had around Kingston though, as there are an infinite number of small lakes and many have lake trout in them, and I know of a few shallower ones (20-40 foot), so these where the ones I was hoping to work off of, so I guess I need to get a heavy sinking line and make some weighted streamers.
  6. I know lake trout tends to be a deeper water fish (hence "lake") but I was wondering if there are any good flys that could fish the deeps for lake trout? As I want to catch some trout on a fly, but there is no trout streams near enough to me to fly fish on. Any input/help would be great!
  7. You may have made ur bobbin rest but I made my own whip finisher from some steel wire I had kicking around hahaha (Matarelli style).
  8. Thanks guys! These patterns should definatly give me something to start with, now I just have to learn how to use them properly (as my fly fishing experince is minimal).
  9. Hey I'm new here and relatively new to fly fishing and was wondering if any one had any suggestions on some good fly patterns for stillwater (small lakes) bass fishing. For use around lake Ontario, at any time of the season, both small and largemouth bass. I tryed looking though the database of patterns here but there was just so many that I'm having a hard time picking (that and I have no idea whats good). Any help would be welcome.
  10. Hey, new here, and I was just wondering if any one knows of a good place to fish for trout around Kingston, prefferably withing an hour. Thanks for any help.
  11. Na from Kingston, Thanks though!
  12. Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself, my name is Kevin and I'm from ontario. I wouldnt say I'm new to fly tying but I wouldn't say I'm a vet eather. I tyed my first flys (2 wooly buggers) when I was about 6 or 7. Though I never realy had the oportunity to get into fly tying untill around a year ago (I'm 19 so its not that huge a gap). I'm still in the process of collecting materials (which is tricky being a student with very little money) and learning new flys. I'd say my biggest problem is actualy learning what to use/how to use, when it comes to actualy fishing with them, as all I can admit to is knowing how to cast, after that I draw a blank and dont know any one who fly fishes. So I found this place in order to hopefully find some insight into how to fly fish as well as learn some new patterns.
