Rocco 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2011 Anyone here using one? Just got mine in 5 wt for high stick nymphing, and light spey/switch work for trout and smaller Mid West steelhead in medium size flows. (I have heavier spey rods for the big devils.) I have done a lot of inet research and found some odd suggestions regarding lining this rod. It has a medium action meaning old style, slow, "parbolic" -- instead of fast tip -- loading well into the mid section. There are plenty of warnings about getting the most out of the rod by controlled, slow, rod movements and late power applications for distance. In short, a lot like many of my older rods. Overhead work is fairly clear cut with most recommendations going to a 5/6 wt fwt line. But the spey/switch casting line suggestions run towards really heavy short belly lines -- 9wt Skagits in some cases. At nearly $100 a crack experimenting in the dark could get expensive. So your experiences would be helpful in getting me off on the right foot. Thnaks in advance, Rocco

Rocco 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2011 KHoss, OOPs. You are partially right. Just rechecked the inet TFO site. The factory recommendations are for a 6/7 wt Skagit and an 8/9 wt Outbound Short for 2-handed casting. I mixed them up. I agree though that the 8/9 wt seems way to heavy for the rod and a 7 wt (325 grs?) only slightly less so. But what do I know, I'm new to this game. Can I ask you for a few more details on your set up? Which rod and reel combo do you use and in which situations does it performs best and worst for you? Thanks, Rocco

FKROW 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2011 The Rio Products line recommendations are very accurate for DH rods. TFO DC 5110 Scandi lines = 280gr - 310gr Skagit lines = 275gr -325gr Rio Switch line = 4/5 (300gr) - 5/6 (350gr) _____________________ I have the TFO DC 4110 and 7110 both are excellent rods.
