  1. flytire, I don't think its a cosseboom either, from what I remember that's not a fly from that region, BUT being old I could be wrong
  2. Nope !!! actually a retired airline mechanic and I tie only tube flies, even co-authored a book on the subject.
  3. A friend from Wales asked me to help him find a fly picture or recipe of a pattern called "Coff Sobom". I suspect the words are either from Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia or the general area thus the fly may be from that region. If anyone knows of this fly I'd love to hear from you. Thanks a million
  4. I received some 1/2 inch tapered shrimp from my friend, Stuart Anderson who owns the Canadian Tube Fly Company, asking me to come up with a pattern. So far all the patterns I made were for European salmon but I wonder if they would translate to American Steelhead in particular the West coast verity. If any one is interested in trying one let me know just what colors to use (I paint the tubes myself) and who/where to mail it when finished. This is a sample of an European (Welsh) version
  5. Being an old retired fart I work diligently at being a local oddity in Southwestern Missouri, a place filled with the odd folks of all breeds
  6. There are two kinds of Yak hair, the outer crinkly stuff which is sold as Saltwater Yak and the fine inner hair which is called "Fine Yak Hair" unfortunately The fine stuff seems to have dried up here in the States. Does anybody have a clue who may have this fine hair in different colors, Thanks in advance
  7. Holy Moley, I'm 71, even wrote a book on the subject, and been tying since the late 40's and thought with all that experience under my belt I would be a slam dunk but did I ever run into some awesome Talent, Well done everyone, nothing but amazing flies posted here. HMMMM Now what do I do for next year, ahhh maybe take a nap first. Congrats to all the winners
  8. I am looking for a pic or description of a Norweign salmon fly either in hook version or tube fly version called "The Red Communest Tube Fly" Please e-mail if you know of this pattern
  9. If you remember I was on a quest looking for 1 inch dia. mylar tubing for salt water flies. While doing some research for a new book on tube flies I'm co-authoring I found that Lagartun carries tubing up to 2 inches in dia. I hope this helps someone.
  10. The person who has been testing my new creations on the Kenai Peninsula is moving to the lower 48, there goes a person who has been brutally honest with my ideas but has caught a lot of fish on them also. If there is anybody out there from Alaska who would like to take her place I sure would like to hear from you. I tie only tube flies, you can see some on my web site http://go.to/nordicway I have lots of experience on the Kenai Peninsula and the interior (Kuskokwim Drainage) and tie for all species, salt and fresh. If you would drop me a line if interested I will discuss your particular style of fishing and as I come up with another idea we'll discuss it and send you something to play with.
  11. Help!!!! Can somebody give this old dude a clue where I can purchase 1 inch dia mylar tubing? I need this stuff to make some mega salt water poppers. Thanks a bunch
