Mike West 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2017 This is from Instagram and Go_Big_Fly. I can't find any list of materials or tying instructions. I'd like to tie some up for LM Bass. Looks like ostrich, peacock herl and craft fur maybe.
Dave G. 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2017 Those are some long sparkly fibers in there, Bears Den in Taunton Ma. has a bunch of synthetics like that. It looks like they are tied in in reverse and laid back over the hook. And yes some natural feathers too. I tie something along those lines but not nearly as full and all synthetic. I have no pattern, I just go at it LOL !
Rocco 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2017 No craft fur I know of comes that long. Big Fish Hair is a synthetic that might do the job with loads of long thin mylar and some gold maribou on the bottom. Is there a hook? Rocco

Philly 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2017 Definitely a tube fly. Looks like its mostly made of natural materials to me. Back could be peacock herl, definitely some ostrich plumes, some very long thin saddle hackle, marabou for the belly/ head, might even be some spey hackle, Krinkle Mirror flash, the frame has got to be some sort of artificial hair, but I couldn't say what kind. How it's tied. Guess, would be there's a body of the artificial hair under all that and the other materials are tied in front and around it. Pretty fly. Despite all the material, it's probably not that heavy. Probably 12 to 14 inches in length. Looks like it would be a good pike fly, just not sure how durable it would be. Mike West 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2017 Bimini, You should be a dective, I didn't pick up on that. Rocco, No idea no information on it. I can look at most any fly and figure how to tie it.. this is a little different cause it's at least 10"-14" long from the pic and measuring my hand...I'll figure it out, just thought someone would know. mikechell 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2017 I might buy one of those ... imagine all the flies one could tie from that mass of materials! I'd bet a 6 inch fly of the same design would attract anything that would, without the problems. Tube fly or not, there's a 50% chance or better that all that material would foul the hook and prevent a hook set. Just looks like a waste of material, to me. Mike West 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2017 Just looks like a waste of material, to me. You crack me up Mike...I bet you can take a quater squeeze it and make an Eagle chit. You live in Florida I live in TX....same deal big bass, big flies...materials per fly...what .50 Cents. Yes I could take that fly and turn into 200 Bream/Crappie flies...what's your point? Rocco 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2017 This video on YouTube is by a guy who specializes in that type of fly. His tips can go a long way to showing how to get your pattern. But -- always a but .. you'll need to invest a small fortune in mega-size flash materials. There is no tube involved in this pattern which, at 7 " or so, is scaled down a bit from the full size musky version. The synthetics involved are splayed wide of the hook bend and are virtually weightless so casting them would not be too ugly. My point wasn't really about making "bream" flies. It was that you could probably make 4 bass/pike (whatever) flies that would be just as effective. Bigger isn't always better.
