eastern fly 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2017 Does anyone know a US distributor for nayat hair? I would like to try it unless you know a sub for it. I have Icelandic sheep already. Kevin
mvendon 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2017 Hi Kevin, I did a little searching on Google for, and about it. It also goes by the name Snow Runner. A few places elude that it comes from a farm animal. I'd be surprised if it wasn't Scottish Highland cattle hair. David Mac used to sell it briefly several years ago before he passed away. If you just want to try different natural colors, this place has it listed on their site. Regards, Mark
whatfly 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2017 Have not seen it anywhere in the US yet, but temple dog, Icelandic sheep, or cashmere goat would be a few reasonable substitutes depending on the length of the fly, and of course there are a ton of synthetic alternatives as well. Seems to be a proprietary name from a UK supplier, so odds are if you really want to try it, probably easiest to go to the source: http://www.foxy-tails.co.uk/category-125/NYT01.html
Piker20 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2017 Yeah just order direct from foxy. Its a great hair, not highland coo though haha. Believe it is some type of domesticated tibetan sheep. Fairly thin but not soft like goat and used as a long wing over the top of something like marble fox to finish the teardrop shape. I use it in a lot of sand eel and streamer patterns
FKROW 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2017 At Somerset years ago a tier from Iceland told me that a Snow Runner was a pony,, they are harvested for food in his home country. We cringe at eating pets and make up strange names for obvious reasons. Regards, FK

Piker20 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2017 Don't think its pony as the Icelandic pony is called arctic runner over here. Very fine and a very different hair from nayat.
