Fishigan 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2004 I'd like to pass on a couple of tackle tips. One thing is for checking guides for any nicks or burrs. Run a cotton ball thru them. If there are any nicks or burrs the cotton ball will catch on it. This is good to do when buying a new rod and periodically during the year. Second.. try applying turtle wax to the ceramic guides to improve performance. Simply apply it with a Q-tip and then run a cotton ball thru the guide to buff it. This can actually improve casting distance by reducing the friction the line has on the guide.

diermit 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2005 Thanks for the tips! They could prevent a lot of grief and salvage a fishing trip... What would you use to take the nicks out with? Maybe some steel wool? Thanks again!
Flyweaver 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 Definately NOT steel wool. Try Jewelers Rouge if you need to buff out a guide.

BIG BOPPER 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2005 Good tip. Probably better then using a womans nylons to check for nicks in the guides. It'll also keep your wife from putting a nick in your head.
