  1. Have been gifted a couple of boxes of old Mustad doubles. One is a full 100 of 3582C in size 8, the other is an almost full box of 3573A in size 2. What are these used for? Any collector value here? Not sure how old they are, but the 2's are marked 15 cents each.
  2. This is my first attempt at posting photos so hoping it works. Red and Copper Chironomid The Red and Copper is sort of a triple threat. It can be taken as a bloodworm, and red pupa or an attractor. Has worked well for me in sizes #14-#18. Its a simple tie. gills- white Uni-Stretch bead- red abdomen- UTC 70 red rib- copper holo tinsel or copper Flashabou thorax- black thread coating- Solarez Bone Dry

  4. Wr1nkles, Check out https://flyguys.net/ . Their focus is on the Kamloops area of British Columbia, but the flies and techniques work far beyond the Canadian border. Lots of stillwater patterns and their Youtube site has a great variety of sbs videos.
  5. Lucian, I tie these for steelhead on a size 8 Allen 100 jig hooks. Don't lose nearly as many flies using the jig hooks as with standard hooks. I also feel that I land more fish, as they seem to be harder for jumping fish to dislodge.
  6. It appears the problem is mine. I'm working on it. Need a computer guru.
  7. Anyone know what the status of the Feather Emporium is? I'm looking to order some stuff from Don, but the website is "Not Available" and hasn't been for several days.
  8. I'm 90 miles north in Scott Valley, just a mile from the Scott River.
  9. I dye wood duck dark olive (Veniard's) to tie tails and legs on small nymphs and Bird's Nests. It makes very "buggy" flies. The only downside is that it is not too durable.
  10. Try Jay Fair's "short shuck", available through his website www.eagleflyfishing.com I understand he dyes it himself. Great fishy colors, the core is dyed too.
  11. Didn't realize what an antique I've become. Started tying when I was ten. Sixty second birthday coming up. My dad attended lessons at a local sporting goods store, came home and showed me what he'd learned. Still have a few materials from that era...in cellophane envelopes. I remember that Dad bought an expensive vise, a Thompsen Model A, for $4.95...it still works fine (but a few years ago I switched to a Regal). What a great hobby, constantly growing and evolving. Hope to stay at it for many more years.
