Fly Tying

Recommended Posts

just checking myself in.

is this the fly fishing clinic?

having some bad withdrawals.

:)

my paws are way too big for tying, but I still do it anyway.

I'm not very good at it, but I manage to catch a few with em.

to me, there is nothing like tying, casting, and catching fish with your own fly, its just

you, the rod, and a string (line).....ya just cant beat it!

peace all

Xb

Welcome to the site, Xb.

At least you have an excuse for tying bad flies "paws too big". I think I'll steal it.

Even if YOU think you're flies don't look good ... we all still like pictures !!!

thanks for the welcome Mike.

sure thing on the pics, next time the vice comes out, I will make a few "say cheese".

just mind that I am a total goof, with no true experience on tying real patterns.

I actually have been endorsed for being a knuckle head.

I believe every one of those will catch fish.

Might even catch an angler or two. For example, I like the two color thread abdomen on the first one ... a lot.

I thank ya again gents.

I started watching the vids on FAOL and dug around the house for 3 days trying to find

my old tying books.

EUREKA!!!

Randall Kaufmann, Tying drys

and

Steelhead, Stewart and Allen

(I used to go for steels years ago)

I picked them up at a show where I ended up sitting and

talking with jim teeny for a good hour.

he is a cool guy,

he told me a story about how a steel jumped (not hooked) and caught him by surprise,

hit him in the back of the head and knocked him off a bolder and into the drink.

his wife said "I was LMAO"!!

:)

anyway....thanks again to all of you.

hope to catch ya around the site.

peace,

Bill

a pic of my stuff, a lot is home made.

chunk of steel shaft for vise base.

wood stuff holder ..bench caddy?

through bolt with welded Y on top for offset thread holder.

wood with cut with pieces of through bolts for thread holder.

little copper thingie for holding back hackle when tying heads.

twister thingie in the wood caddy made from wire, beads and 2 pens.

I really need another fly box.

I like the little Cortland one (well the size of it anyway),

but have been using band-aids and now surgical tape to keep it closed for many years.

(yes, I am a cheap old buzzard) LOL

I would like to get one of those 2 sided ones with the page inside and clear covers

that is waterproof.

any suggestions? better brand name? not too expensive?

I also need some supply's...

hooks

some materials

I seen one of those hackle pliers that looks like a pen (or looks like a test lead off a

electrical multimeter (I may have one) if that's what they are) I want one of those.

help/suggestions would be really cool.

here is a pic of my stuff.
