Plummers GOOP is a perfect solution! - I stick all my eyes on all materials with it. Comes in a tube, It’s available at all hardware stores, is reasonably cheap and really works great. I even use a dab under the eye when putting eyes (3/8"epoxy dome eyes) on fur heads. You just have to apply a light pressure to the eye after it’s attached for a few minutes.

Searching for the right color peacock quills can be a pain - they come in ALL shapes, sizes and colors (just like us!) But I do believe Bill Purdy (the tier) marked his stripped quills with very light beige, spirit based artists marker to tone in to the overall coloration of the fly. Thanks for your nice comments Barry

I was busy sorting out piles of old fly tying stuff and came across the Quill Gordon pictured - It was tied by an old client and friend of mine Bill Purdy. Bill is one of the finest fly tiers I have known. We met in Boulder, CO back in the ’70s when we were supplying CREATIVE ANGLERS with a series of innovative flies, (mostly nymph patterns) designed by Bill and Ken Ligus (SCINTILLA DUBBING fame) - I have lost touch with both these guys and anyone out there that can give me a lead to them I would be very grateful. Onto the Quill Gordon - For younger members, that perhaps done know, this pattern was tied by our founding father of dry fly fishing in America. Theodore Gordon. Mr. Gordon fished the Catskill region of New York State (born 1854-1915). Mr. Gordon was receiving dry flies from England and was not content with these flies so he started to tie his own. We need to stop here for a minute and imagine the difficulty of doing this! No vise? - Where did he get the hooks, materials? - Tying Thread etc. etc. - A true dry fly pioneer! I think it’s time to revive and remember these founders and what they passed onto our hobby and sport. - Mr. Gordon was a bit of a hermit, he never published a book but was a writer for the Fishing Gazette and other publications. Unbeknown to him he will always be remembered for his tenacity and will to fool a wary trout! - What a beautiful hobby and sport we have!

Thank you - I see from your profile that you live near me - Im south of you in Lady Lake1 Appreiate your kind comment- Barry haha, you're only about an hour or so south of here. I noticed you listed redfish as a favorite species. Where do you normally go? Crystal River? The no motor zone of Banana river, east coast - been going over there for 18 years and almost got a world record red on fly (Long Time ago) -Ill post a pic here - 48" - I guess trophy sized fish dont get that way by being stupid - they go in the no-zone for peace and quite - only thing -we have to paddle our guts out to find them - +-70 sq miles of water!! Its very exciting fly fishing when you do - Do you know the Tri-County Flyfishers, The Villages? - Im giving a talk there this Wed nite - your more than welcome -
