  1. hello all, i have returned to the forum after a few years of absence. it's nice to be back! my pap made a steal on a couple trailer loads of hardwood that he bought from a lumberyard that was going out of business. i was able to talk him into building a solid cherry desk that fits into a dormer upstairs. and with a little rigging i have made it into an excellent fly-tying desk. i mounted one of those fabric closet shoe storage things and i use it for storing materials. it works great and keeps the wife happy too since i don't leave any more messes for her around the dining room table heh
  2. Good job snik, I'm tying right now for a smallmouth trip I'm making in a couple days. I'll give your pattern a try, looks like a good recipe.
  3. I just did a day trip to a western AR stream yesterday (Oct 30). I used mostly streamers, and I had one good crayfish imitation that caught a couple fish before I lost it. I found that the for the most part the larger and brighter streamers worked best. I plan to go back next week and fish another stretch of water. Post a report when you get back.
  4. Good question, I would like to use some of my own birds as well. Not much help here but I would like to follow this thread.
  5. Sean - I fish out of a kayak more often than a boat myself, first more out of necessity, now I'm finding I really enjoy it. For all you photographers out there, here are a few links you might find useful: Fred Miranda (includes a rather snooty forum but filled with info): Fred Miranda Photography-on-the-net (great forum, good for beginners through advanced, centered around Canon): POTN Here is a gallery of some of my won pics: mdwsr gallery
  6. You guys have some nice setups. I want to follow this thread, I just ordered a big box of fly tying materials yesterday (mostly all your faults). I have an idea for a bench but want to see what you guys have done before I start my own.
  7. That would be me, too. Maybe a pdf? I don't get the mag in my area and it seems it is too late to order this issue.
  8. Interesting topic. I can remember fishing a feeder creek with live crawdads after seeing some lunker kentuckies hanging around several different rootballs while snorkling. I only got hits until I pulled the claws of the crawdads, and then my success improved dramatically. I tried to mimic this but was never completely successful. I also noticed that they would hit the lighter colored craws two to one over the hard shell dark craws, and all of them nearly every time on the fall.
  9. Some really nice setups here. I have an upstairs dormer with a desk (my computer is here now), and I want to start using this space as a fly tying desk. Can anyone suggest vendors for supplies, tools, vice, etc? I've been waiting about 20 years to do this so cost does not matter so much.
  10. Very nice fly, I might give it a try.
