    Sad news indeed

I very sad to read this today. I enjoyed his commentary and tying. My condolences to the family.
  2. I could be wrong but it looks to me like Bean is closing out Loon products. They had the Loon tungsten putty super cheap as well.

  4. Yikes! Out of my price range for sure-
  5. I got very luck with my tying chair. My previous chair wasn't comfortable. 5 years back my employer relocated and down sized our office and that meant that we had a few dozen top quality office chairs with no where to go. I spend eight hours in these on most days and I knew they were great chairs. The president sent out an email that if anyone wanted a chairs to take some home. I grabbed one and still use it.
  6. George- you can get a $10 UV light from Cabela's and I told they are even cheaper on Amazon. I had the $40 Loon Light and the only difference is that the cheap light uses 3 batteries instead of a single for the Loon and it takes a few seconds longer to cure the UV. Dean
  7. LL Bean also has Loon Top Ride desiccant at half off. $4.99 a bottle.
  8. My wife has lane centering and I hate it. I have that dumba$$ auto shut off in my Jeep- the dealer told me it's now mandatory on new vehicles because it's saves fuel. I wonder if the fuel I'm saving by having the engine shut off each time I stop will cover the cost of a new starter?
  9. You're not the only one VC- a 60 year old coworker of mine who is very tech savvy, inherited a brand 2023 Mercedes after his father in law passed. It's got all the new standard features and a few he can't guess at. The trouble is that it's still at his father in law's house because he can't figure out how to start it- even with the owners manual. Maybe it's got some type of facial recognition system like my iPhone? I told him to get to the dealership for some "training" before he accidently engages the antigravity warp converter and disappears forever. 😁

  12. Bingo sir- I’ve caught a hell of a lot of trout on flies with substituted materials. As Norm’s signature used to say “the trout care less than we do“. Or is I like to say- if you can’t find hair from the chin of a juvenile male Sasquatch, Deer will do. Substituting materials is what fly tying fishing flies is all about.
  13. Hi all, I’ve never used Aquel but I know people who say it’s their go to. Today I was in an LL Bean store and it looks to me like they are closing it out. From $7.95 to $1:99! I bought the last 2 off the shelf. Just thought I would put it out there for anyone who uses the stuff.
  14. Tying Ausable Ugly's last week jogged my memory about this simple fly that did well for me few years back. Eventually I lost the 2 examples I had and forgot about it . No official name for this pattern that I'm aware of so I call it my Mean Wolverine. No pretty, but they catch trout. DEAN’S MEAN VOLVERINE HOOK: #12 -#8 2XL STREAMER THREAD: #70 BLACK UNDER BODY: WIRE TAIL: WOLVERINE DARK GUARD HAIRS ABDOMEN/BODY: WOLVERINE UNDER COAT DUBBING HACKLE: SPUN WOLVERINE -WRAP FROM HEAD TO TAIL AND BRUSHED OUT.
