Thanks Carp. I am going to try making some with different colored bodies, Any suggestions of Dubbing color for different body color?

This afternoon I braved the incoming snow storm and headed up to Maine with my roomie to hit the Kittery Trading Post and get the materials I would need to tie a Brassie. I took the advice of a couple members and found a simple fly to begin with. When I got home I organized all the goodies I got and get set up to tie my very first fly. Needless to say I was very excited. After some trial and error I got the first one done, grabbed my camera and took a picture. Ok it wasn't perfect but not bad for a first try. So I grabbed another hook and tried again. The second one came out better, still need to work on the dubbing part, but as they say practice makes perfect. Here are the two flies I tied tonight. I took a better picture of the fur I get from the rabbit. Not sure if you can really see it or not but its almost like a marbled grey.

Thanks Carp I will do that. I love to go fishing. all this snow though has really made it hard to get out on the ice. I usually go with my brother-in-law and we set up camp out on the ice for the day and just have a great old time. I am new to fly tying and fishing. I plan on getting my first fly rod this year. The NH fish and game offers a course which I hope I can get in on to learn the basics.

Thanks FlaFly and Schmitty. I will definately take that advice and just get materials for 2 or three beginner flies. I live in Ma. on the North Shore 5 minutes outside Salem. I also have 1 other question. I have been reading about different materials and I know that rabbit fur can used for dubbing. I was wonder if I could use the fur I get from my rabbit when I brush him. I have added a pic of what I got off him tonight.

I have always loved fishing and have wanted to learn how to fly fish and tie flies. I have purchased a set of tools and a vise, and I am in the process of getting materials. I have also bought a couple books to help me get started. Fly tying for Beginners by Peter Gathercole Fly tying made clear and simple by Skip Morris and The Fly Tying Bible by Peter Gathercole. If anyone can suggest some materials to start with would be a great help.
