Tube Flies

Recommended Posts

Can someone tell me the concept behind tube flies. How and why they came about. I understand everything has a purpose, wife complanes, kids wants money, boss wants more work in less time :dunno:

Large light flies with short hooks for better hookups. From what I have read tube flies originated in the Scandinavian countries and were then brought to the U.S.

To add to what mdraft said they are used for fish who try to injure their prey(things like trout, but not bass who eat prey whole), they bite the tails of the fish, so a tube fly in theory would increase hook ups, but I have never had any better success with the flies. I guess they could be compared to an articulated fly except with one hook and there is not materials on a second hook.
