  1. I just re-read my post and am ashamed that I forgot to thank the "Swapmiester." Thanks Steve, you're the man! Tom, thanks for the links, I've already got them printed! Gary, LOL! S/F, Bob PS: STEELERS, one for the thumb!
  2. I just got my flies in last night. This is my first swap and I’ll certainly be in more. Some of you are true artists with unbelievable skill; it makes me feel bad for sending the trash ties I made. I have a stone that has no toe tag (there is a loose toe tag with “W. Carp” on in so I’ll assume that’s who tied it). It is weaved with black and dark brown; it’s an amazing job! You’ve inspired me to practice weaving! The Steelhead Hammer by Tdeyette is great; I’ve never seen this pattern before! I’m going to look for that pattern. Hell, all of these flies are great. Thanks for all the fantastic ties everyone! S/F, Bob PS: I’ve been looking all over the house for my green fly box. I had sent it with my flies and was returned last night. It sucks getting old: no memory, eyesight shot (have to use 3x power reading glasses to tie), three-mile run exceeds 27 minutes, etc... Oh well, I guess it’s better than the alternative.
  3. Steve, Mine hit the mail yesterday too. S/F, Bob
  4. I guess we all stay busy. Have a great day, Semper Fi, Bob Anick SgtMaj USMC PS: Happy 230th Birthday to all Marines both past and present!
  5. SD, I need your address to send flies.... or, since I live on Selfridge, I could just meet you somewhere and hand them over (Flymart or something). Let me know. Friends, The flies are done and I hope you like and use them; I’ve caught many steelhead with these patters and is the reason I chose to tie them for you. The flies you will receive from me are: Double Egg Sperm Fly (DESF) and the PM Brassie. I have been tying the DESF for many years and therefore cannot credit any one source with the pattern. The PM Brassie, however, was tied using the pattern in “Flies for Steelhead” book coauthored by Dick Stewart and Farrow Allen. I’ve not seen this fly, tied in purple, anywhere else. I don’t necessarily tie exactly as a pattern calls for but they work. For example, the Double Egg Sperm Fly has less marabou than what most photos call for. I just don’t think that much milt would drift with two eggs. That’s just my opinion and, as mentioned before, they catch fish. Again, I hope you like and use them; they work for me. Semper Fi, Bob Anick SgtMaj USMC PS: Happy 230th Birthday fellow Marines, past and present!!!
  6. Guys, I'm new here but I'll play if you still have room. S/F, Bob
  7. Like most, I started with a cheap beginner's vice (started tying in 89 while living in Wyoming). I used that until about 5 years ago when I got a Renzetti. S/F. Bob
  8. Thanks for the welcome guys! Bentflyrod, I'm on Selfridge ANG Base (north of Detroit by about 30 miles). I'm the senior enlisted for a reserve Wing Support Group. I'm one of several active duty Marines that keep the place running until the reservists show up. Along with the Group HQ here, we have 8 other Sites under the Group from Chicopee, MA to San Diego, CA (I stay on the road pretty often). Shoe, Fire me an email, we'll exchange numbers, and work out a meeting. I'm leaving the house as soon as I'm done writing this to catch some bass and I'll probably be out every morning through Monday or Tuesday. Assuming we would be taking the boat, I launch from base (it's free) so I'll have to sign you onto the base but that's a piece of cake. I've not fished for bass with a fly rod much but we can surely give it a try. Bob
  9. I'd like to introduce myself: I am Bob Anick, a 45 year old, 28 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps (still serving) from Pittsburgh, PA currently stationed in Detroit, MI. I like to fish, tie flies, trap, and now, I like visiting this site! This is GREAT!
