SBPatt 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2019 RUH - Real Ungulate Hair; had to change the name since I used elk for the body/wing and moose for the tail in addition to the deer hair hackle. A single wing (semi-comparadun) would have saved some steps; change color/size to suit your needs. hook Dai Riki 300 #10 thread/rib - UTC 140 tan tail - moose body hair hump/wing - yearling elk hair bleached body - dubbing dun hackle - deer hair Mash barb, start thread at 3/4 mark, wrap to bend Clean, stack, measure (gap width past bend) a clump of moose body hair; tie in/trim Clean, stack, measure (Shank lengthh) a healthy clump of elk; tie in at 3/4 mark Trim out about 3/4 of the elk, wrap remainder to tail Dub thread/dub body Pull elk forward; tie down/trim butts Push wing back, set angle with thread dam in front (Optional) Split wing with thread wraps; post wings with wraps around each base Create thread loop at front of body, wax heavily Clean and stack a clump of deer hair, insert in clip and distribute evenly; set length (approx 1.5 gap width), trim butts Insert clip in loop, release (even tips if necessary, spin Wrap hackle, tie off/trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN (optional - trim hackle underneath); looks like the tail came up just a bit short but it should still balance the fly Regards, Scott Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
