  1. BIG BOPPER

    Hi

Welcome to the forum. What kind of fish do you catch in the salt down under?
  2. Take a 6"to8" section of 2by4. drill a bunch of holes. Drill one wide hole near the end for your cement bottle. Sand it down and you'll have a nice tool caddy @ your finger tips.
  3. Looks like a good fly. I want to try and get his book. The only time I could get carp on the fly was during the cicada hatch in'04.
  4. We must be part of some sort of fraternity. "Looped Leader Hookers" or something.
  5. As a threader you could use the looped dental floss thingys
  6. Good tip. Probably better then using a womans nylons to check for nicks in the guides. It'll also keep your wife from putting a nick in your head.
  7. I've taken my kayak out of a small beach park on the western side, just south of rt 50 bridge. The locals call this place "Stinky Beach". Yellow and white Clouser's and Bruce's Crab Colored Clouser ars good patterns. In early may decent sized bluefish come back there gpoing after the shad. Good Luck!
  8. Hey Sgt. Dan Depending on what kind of fish you're going for, I'd recomend Lefty Kreh's videos for bass and saltwater. He makes it real simple. That makes it encouraging for a beginner. Bass pro sells a starter kit with his video in it. My youngest son talked me into buying it and we've been hooked ever since. It's a special feeling to catch a fish on something YOU made from feathers, fur ,yarn etc. It helps with cabin fever in the winter. I remember tying tarpon flies in front of the fireplace during a snowstorm. I was flying to Puerto Rico the next day. Anyway, you'll love it. So stay strong and God bless...and Thanks
  9. Flyfish TV is the only one I know that always has a flytying segment. There website has all the tying segments. You don't have to wait for the show to come on
  10. Nice pattern. I like marabou muddlers. You can fish 'em slow or fast.
  11. They say doing it too much can make you go blind. All I see is a blurr. I hope the camera is out of focus and it's not me.
  12. After a weekend with friends in Western Maryland, My wife and I stopped @ Harper's Ferry on our way back to Baltimore. We took a cooler (for her ha ha) and went down to the river(Potomac) I fished while she sat on a huge rock.(Looked like a natural easy chair. We called the Flintstones' couch). Anyway, I was drifting and jigging an olive beadhead crystal bugger along side a rock when I hooked up. I yelled to her to get a picture of me challenging this little fish. As it surfaced I noticed what first looked like some tangled line around the fishes mouth. As I drew it nearer I noticed my fly wasn't even in the fishes mouth. This fish had been caught before and had swallowed the hook. Coming out of it's mouth was about 6" of line with a loop @ the end . My fly was hooked in the loop! :dunno: Am I good or what? This is no :bs: Before I released this ambitious 9" smallmouth I looked down the throat and I didn't see the hook. The line had algae on it so I figured he'd been swimming like that for a while so I just snipped the old line just inside his mouth. I then took the beautiful Mrs. Bopper across the foot bridge into town, sat on the deck of a quaint pub. Listened to a guy playing Celtic music while we drank Pumpkin beer  Autumn in the moutains...Beautiful!
  13. I had a good summer fishing for smallmouth bass with a chartreuse/white crystal bugger retrieved fast and erratic. Now that fall is here I'm wondering what a good pattern and retrieve would be best.
  14. Buy a small length of brass pipe and a pipe cutter. Cut a length and fit it into your drill. Go to the dollar store and buy a pair of hard foam flip-flops(color of choice) and you can cut out dozens of popper heads for cheap. (The fly tying suppliers are cussing me). A bullet shell can also be used in your drill.
  15. I like it and will add to my hopper arsenal.
