Wounded Duck

Hook: Grip Barbless Hook 11013BL #18; four Microfibetts for the tails; peacock quill dyed, stripped, and wrapped over a tapered thread base to form the body; the upright and knock-down wings are natural dun CDC feathers.

another great one Kev thanks for sharing

There is no such thing as a blank day for a fisherman. It will be saved for him by the white-throated weasel, who watches his fishing from a hole in the wall under which is lying a fish that refused all flies; or by the excitment of identifying insects; or by the apple-bloosom in a nearby orchard; and no one would call that day a blank on which he has seen a king-fisher." -- Arthur Ransome Rod and Line, 1929

Kev...Very nice looking fly. The body is "tight!" You're just using a regular peacock feather stripped of its fibers? Tied in at the tip?

Thanks for sharing.

Later...

SullyTM,

Yes, from the tip towards the base. The flue is removed with a pencil eraser. I always first hold the peacock quill and pull at the tip. The quill will break at it's weakest point. I then tie in the 'tip' and wrap.

The eyed peacock sticks are first bleached then dyed. I get them from English Angling Trappings, which I believe is now Anglers Den in upstate NY. The 'bleached' herl will also take a permanent marker after the flue is stripped. You can wipe the Chartpak/Pantone before or after wrapping the body. I prefer marking the quills before I tie them on the hook.

Hi Mike,

Just 15? By tax day? or is that the beginning of the Maryland season? I sent this pattern for sample-returns to the ScientificFly commercial tying factory....it'll be tied, if I nod, on Grip Hooks 11011BL #16-20. BWO, PMD, and a Sulphur (#14-16).

Yeah Kev just 15...but in #14, 16, 18, and 20's. Our season is year 'round on the catch and release water but our first sulphurs will be mid April. BTW I was joking...but if you are having them done already I will take em...give me a call smile.gif
