Dahlberg Sunny New Pattern Database Submission

Dear FTF Member,
Support FTF by Subscribing to Hatches Today! 2011 Issue - In Stock
Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. Click Here for Subscription Info Thank You -Will

That will definately attract bass and the stacking and packing are done well BUT I might suggest starting the deer hair further forward, better yet, If you are going to tie that big of bug it needs to be tied on a larger hook. Looking closely at the fly you can see theres not much clearance between tip of hook and the body, which may harm the actual hook up(short strikes)If have many hooks of this size you should tie shorter bodies(move collar up to just ahead of the tip(not barb)This will give better and more hook ups' or go with a wide gap hook. Please don't misunderstand me, its very nicely tied headbang.gif On fly attached, notice where the body starts and see that the distance between tip of hook and bottom of fly gives plenty of room for some fish lips blink.gif

I'd fish with it! Good tips from Bruce, too.

Looks like a great job on the deer hair work!
If I was an "expert" people would be paying me to do this stuff. I just like to do what works.

Very good stacking job! Bruce has a point -- a bigger hook would serve you well. I use size 2 Tiemco TMC8089 hooks on deer hair bass bugs that size. These hooks are big enough to extend backward a bit more on the fly you tied and will provide a much bigger hook gap.

You could also trim the bottom flatter and closer to the hook shank with a double-edged razor blade if you want to improve the hook gap a bit. Just be careful you don't slice through any of the thread wraps holding the deer hair together.

Anyway, just making suggestions. As it stands, a very nicely tied fly. I'm sure many would like to be able to stack, pack, and trim a deer hair bass bug as nicely as you've done there -- good job!
