Pattern Help

Dear FTF Member,
Support FTF by Subscribing to Hatches Today! 2011 Issue - In Stock
Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. I need some help with finding a name and recipe for the pattern below. For a better picture, the fly is shown in the newest Cabela's Fly Fishing catalog (in the fly tying section above the zonker strips).

Thanks,
Orange Caddis

Don't know what it is called but it looks like it would be easy to replicate.

Zonker strip, rubber legs, polar cchenille, and dumbell eyes/3d stick on eyes.

I'm just trying to figure out the black and chartreuse tail. It appears that the chartreuse is a highlight at the end of the tail, and I'm trying to figure this part out. The rest of the fly I've already tied.

Thanks for the help so far, I'll keep searching.

You might try super gluing a piece of chartruese zonker strip to the end of the black strip. That should help replicate the pic.

Pic is too small to really see that detail but it looks like that section of the strip was dyed yellow.

That's what I would do. I've seen a couple patterns and have tied a couple where you just cut a short piece from a chartreuse strip and turn it upside down and glue the leather together at the tail tip. Probably how this one was done.

Super glue is too stiff and the added tail will come off. Try contact cement or Tear Mender, both glues that do not stiffen.

Yes, Tear Mender is the stuff for rabbit. Or maybe Pliobond.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Thanks everyone for your help. After some searching, I found the pattern. It's called a Hot Tail Bunker (as listed in FFF Fly Pattern Encyclopedia).

The tail is indeed glued on, but they don't specify which glue. I'll try to locate some Tear Mender later on this week after the weekend shopping frenzy.

Thanks again,
Orange Caddis

take a sewing needle and some 3/0 fly tying thread. Stitch the chartreuse bunny strip onto the end of the black with a few loop stitches, not real tight. Finish it with a few good tight knots and a tiny drop of glue. No mess, it's easy, and there is no loss of action.
If I was an "expert" people would be paying me to do this stuff. I just like to do what works.
