The furled leader discussion got me wondering what brand(s) of tippet/leader material does everyone use?

I have used RIO Powerflex pretty much exclusively for a while now, and have had no problems at all with it -that weren't my fault. I'd love to try a fluorocarbon tippet (and ski wax for that matter...) but they seem so expensive comparatively that I am hesitant.

Rio and Cortland. I had some knot problems last week (I had two knots break and one slip) but believe it was because of rain. It was raining when tying on flies and I believe the tippet was sticking to my wet hands and the knots weren't tied right. Other than that, no problems.

Orvis Super Strong for the thick stuff, Frog Hair for 4X and below. I use the Super Strong because it IS super strong and the Frog Hair because it is very supple and is very strong for its size. Both carry an expiration date which I find to be a valuable feature.
I do carry a spool of 5X flouro for droppers. It does seem to improve my hook-up rate.

i'm about to try out some frog's hair.... i'm interested to see how well it does. I've used mostly cortland and rio in the past.

I use Orvis fluorocarbon at the of my furled leader in fresh water. For salt water I use Stren Fluorcarbon. I bought 250 yard spools for the same price I pay for the 30 m Orvis spools. Though I did get luckly last year when a friend found some 30, 40 and 50 lb Orvis fluorocarbon in 100 m spools for $3 at the Orvis outlet store in VA.

I am known as a cheap person. Jack Benny looks like a philanthopist next to me. I use the plain vanilla types at Wal-Mart and whatever is on sale. I bought some tippet material for 25 cents a spool and it works like the $5 stuff. I have a friend who catches more fish than I do whenever we go out. He ties his own leaders from inexpensive fishing line and has been known to scrounge trees and bushes for leader or tippet material when he leaves his stuff at home. I personally don't think brands make that much difference. I do use a loop-to-loop connection for leader and line. I take the leader off and wind it into large loops, put it in a ziplock bag to keep from getting small kinky coils in the leader and tippet. Just an opinion.

I'm actually pretty cheap, after I fill my ultralite with six pound test trilene I use the leftover for leaders.

I use Orvis Big Game and their fluoros for the bigger stuff, and maxima for anything 2X and lighter.

No complaints with either one.

Maxima Chamelion. It has a brown color and the water I fish has a lot of tannin in it so it appears brown.

LOL dontheo, thought I was gonna be the only one with that answer. I only salmon/steelhead fish. So my leader/tippets are VERY simple. I have a heavier leader straight from flyline with a loop tied in. Only about a foot long piece max. I use Maxima Chameleon for that in around 25# test. Then, my leader is simply a piece of Maxima UG or Chameleon (depending on water clarity). Pretty much all I use (even on my baitcasters as well).

I've got my second Umpqua Leader Tying Kit (this one was on sale for $12 ), so I use them mainly.

Or Orvis Redfish leaders that I have after our local store closed.
