Dear FTF Member,
Support FTF by Subscribing to Hatches Today! 2011 Issue - In Stock
Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. ive been looking for some tadpole patterns online but they just arent real enough for me lol. does anyone think a wool body trimed in a round shape, a marabou tail with some flash, and some 3D eyes would make a good tadpole fly?

I would think so!

I haven't actually tied one, but have given thought to tying one up if I ever get back up to a certain lake near me.....I was thinking of using balck or brown straight cut(as opposed to cross cut) bunnie strips for the tail and then wrapping the strips aroud the hook to build a body.....you could even use some elastic to form a pair of legs off the back.....just a thought....

an olive deer hair body with a white underside some not too heavy lead eyes and olive marabou tail and the body trimmed to shape

Hi Sniksoh, Woolhead Tadpole, add rear legs, tadpoles have a defense system like salamanders where they do not taste all that well.

Cheers, Futzer.
Tie a man a fly and you give him fresh air, some exercise and a lot of fun. Teach a man to tie flies and eventually it takes over all free time, a room in his house and several thousand of his dollars.

The biggest brown trout I have ever seen were feeding on tadpoles, it was amazing. I dont have a pattern yet but like the ideas.
