Help
it was a hard day fishing today went out for about 2 hours. not a single bite. it was cloudy,windy, about 50 degrees and it looked like a storm was moving in but it didnt end up raining. just wanted to know what some of the largemouth tactics you guys use during these condition, cause im thinking about going back to the water hole tomorrow and i have a feeling the weather will be the same.

largemouths and pond fish in general can be very moody, especially when the water is cold. They don't need to eat every day to stay happy. I don't deal with quite the same conditions here as you do there, but in the dead of winter when the water is as cold as it's going to get, I've found a couple things that sometimes work. One is a heavy woolly bugger or leech type fly fished slow and deep. You have to be extremely observant to pick up the bites, because they can be subtle. The other is a fairly large bright baitfish/attractor like a bright bucktail in white or chartreuse or yellow with lots of flash, fished pretty fast. Sometimes this can trigger a reaction strike.

Ponds in essecence , are microcosims of the larger lakes in your area . Changing barametric pressure like you have with fronts , effect fish air bladders to the point they can become inactive. High pressure systems will often have the worst effect on them. Thats why its often harder on a "blue bird " day. Cold fronts have a different effect . Fish are cold blooded and their metabalism slows in colder water and they will become inactive when there is a sudden change in water temp. Like a large lake ,ponds will have different temps through out the water coloum. It is possible the fish were still feeding when you fished yesterday but had moved to a section of the water coloum
either above or below most of your presentations. Keep trying large slow moving flies at different depths and try to estabish where the fish are in the water coloum. And varry your retrieve. Even when fish are inactive you can trigger a reaction strike with a slow retrieve and then a sudden movement. Good Luck,
