I don't like the shine left by the finish. I think I will try a matte varnish on the next one.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading".--Thomas Jefferson

There is no such thing as a blank day for a fisherman. It will be saved for him by the white-throated weasel, who watches his fishing from a hole in the wall under which is lying a fish that refused all flies; or by the excitment of identifying insects; or by the apple-bloosom in a nearby orchard; and no one would call that day a blank on which he has seen a king-fisher." -- Arthur Ransome Rod and Line, 1929

I think it's cheating to cut the head off of a real snake, glue it to the hook shank and call it a realistic. j_k.gif That is one incredible piece of work.

Fred,

Used to fish 8 and 10 inch watersnake patterns for big largemouth in strip mine ponds in Eastern KY....never tied one that looked like that! Another great submission....just make sure it doesn't bite you!

Nice Fred, very nice indeed. May I ask what weight rod you throw that with. I was thinking a serpentine body spine so it would S twich in the water would be fun, but too much to throw.

Cheers, Jeff
Tie a man a fly and you give him fresh air, some exercise and a lot of fun. Teach a man to tie flies and eventually it takes over all free time, a room in his house and several thousand of his dollars.

Thanks Chris (BDH), and Jeff.
Jeff I throw this with a 7/8 loaded with 8wt line. I have a 10 wt. , but I think it would be over kill. The rabbit strip really comes alive in the water.

Shines like the snake just shed it's skin ! The bucketmouths in the lake across the street might not get a chance for a good meal with the hawks, falcons, ospreys & eagles ! Nice tie! yahoo.gif
