Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. Yep, it's time for Mrs. Oatka to have another baby....any week now (hopefully just not too close to the Guys, Flies & Pies tying event in just over a week in Rochester NY).

So, I'm searching for a name for this baby, one that my wife and I can agree on. See, we've have 4 kids, one of which I wasn't part of so I didn't have a say in the name. The other 3 I was able to get some good fly fishing names past her. So, the search to keep the theme alive is going on.

Here's my criteria:

1 - Fishing related (even if it's somewhat of a stretch)
2 - 1 syllable, if possible
3 - Not too fruity or ridiculous.

So, my wife has it set in her mind that Gil will be this kids name. for those of you who think this is another fishing related victory for me, it's not....it's a victory for the fans of Anne of Green Gables.....and I am not a fan. Plus, if Gil was a victory, then so would be Scale, Tongue, Butthole, Eye Ball.....you get the point.

So, this morning, she's trying to jack up Gil and make it something else....besides just Gil or the elongated Gilbert. She's come up with Gilvan, Gilax (a combination of Gil and Chillax....but she was thankfully joking since it sounds like some diarrhea medicine.)

Sooooo.....I come to the FTF minds to see what ya'll can come up with. Is there any Gil like name out there you can recommend that I wont think is too gay stupid?

Oh, and to put it in perspective.....we have a Seth, Brooke and Tyler already.

I had a friend named Gilliam....William with a "G"....but your could also name him Gilson. I have a fellow officer whose father is named Gilson. Just a thought.....not very good with names, Oatka...my child is named "Sam"....that's about as good as it gets with me! I"ll get Jamie to give it a go for ya.

Gili- meaning: Joy

Is that not appropriate as a new baby is a time of joy just as time on the water is a time of joy.

totally agree with the River Phoenix thing.

my wife thinks sage is a girls name....i disagree, but either way, it's out i guess.

she suggested Drewgil, because she kinda likes the name drew, and gil is still her first choice, and since i'm often picked on for catching bluegill, it's a good choice. hey, be nice, bluegill are awesome! ! !
